Most kidney tumors have receptors for the hormone somatostatin on their cells. AN-238, which mimics this hormone, is intended to bind to these receptors in hopes of slowing the growth of kidney cancer cells. In mouse studies where tumors had this receptor, tumor growth was strongly inhibited.
