An anti-angiogen, canstatin halts the formation of new endothelial cells by inducing cell death in the dividing cells as they try to form new blood vessels. Existing blood vessel cells are unaffected. In theory it could starve tumors without attacking them directly, by disabling expansion of the blood supply.
